2010 St. Thomas Aquinas Boys Soccer
vs. Windham
St. Thomas played host to the Windham Jaguars in a game that
helped raise money for Rylie Cruz to help her and
her family fight cancer.
The teams played the game
with Select "The Cure" Pink soccer balls.
Players wore pink sweatbands and had
pink laces in their cleats to show their support
for Rylie.
Players preformed a world cup style march out and both teams
were announced
prior to the playing of the national anthem.
The game was started with the threat of Hurricane Earl
looming, but the weather held off for the entire game.
Maybe a higher power
knew we were playing for more than just soccer.
The first half ended scoreless even though the Saints had four really good scoring attempts.
53:40 (13 minutes into the second half)
saw Ed Conroy take a point blank shot that was just barely saved by the Jaguar
keeper causing the ball to rebounded out to the right. Connor Bailey ran
on to it in stride and slammed it home for his first varsity goal.
59:15 (Six minutes later) the charged Saints worked the ball out to the left side of the field where Andrew Civiello beat the Windham left defender and sent a cross into Ed Conroy who sent it past the jaguar keeper.
67:02 Windham was able to score with 13 minutes reaming in the game to tighten up the score and make the Saints work hard right up until the final whistle for the victory.
Seldon Cook had 6 saves in net for St. Thomas while the Saints put 14 shots on the Windam goal.
The real win came when we totaled up the donations and saw
that we raised close to $500.00 for Rylie.
We will still sell T-shirts when
they come in and hope to add to that total.
The St. Thomas Boys Soccer team would like to thank the School and all the fans for their support in our efforts for Rylie.
Thanks to the St. Thomas athletic staff for helping us pull off our home opener "Pink" Game
